Average residential power rates in Negros Oriental, including Dumaguete City, decreased in October due to the lower generation charge following the reduction in prices of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
The downward rate adjustment was announced by the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative and the Negros Oriental I Electric Cooperative in separate advisories.
Noreco II reported a decrease in generation charge by ₱2.5562/kWh and its VAT by ₱0.2415/kWh and system loss charge by ₱0.2704/kWh and its VAT by ₱0.0227/kWh.
However, there is an increase in the transmission charge by ₱0.2650/kWh and its VAT by ₱0.0327/kWh.
Noreco II General Manager Fe Marie Dicen-Tagle attributed the decrease in electric rates for October to the significant reduction in the spot market rates.
Tagle expressed hope that this lowered power rate will continue on till end of the year. (AP)
