After going through most of the year that has marked with a lot of bad news, mostly about killings in Negros Oriental, we take great pleasure in the celebration of the Dumaguete fiesta and Charter Day as a welcome respite from these unfortunate incidents.
The Dumaguete fiesta is regarded by some as the final celebration that ushers in the much-awaited Christmas season.
Christmas is a season of hope. Those of us who are old enough to remember wonderful memories of Christmases past might want to try to relive that memory by being a blessing to others.
To give us an idea of what we can do, there is a project of the Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network (ONCAN) led by Marietta Jambora that aims to make wishes of children come true.

For the past 10 years, children living in conflict areas, mostly in the mountains of Negros Oriental, have sent their wishes which are pinned on to the huge Christmas tree at Robinsons Mall.
These children will be ferried to Dumaguete on Christmas to have their first taste of cake or spaghetti from a fastfood, have a tour around Dumaguete, and maybe take their first ride on the escalator at the mall. This is where they will see that their wishes came true.
These wishes range from a simple toy to a pair of shoes, a shirt, perhaps, or even a bicycle.
Perhaps you may want to bring cheer to these kids, and make them experience the magic of Christmas? It would only take a small amount of your time and treasure.
Visit the ONCAN Christmas tree at the mall, and see how you can be a blessing.
