It won’t be long before the Quezon Park in Dumaguete City, the provincial capital of Negros Oriental, will finally have the bronze statue of former President Manuel L. Quezon.
For so long a time, the city’s Quezon Park had the statue of the national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal instead.
But with the College Assurance Plan (CAP) placed under receivership, Dumaguete City Mayor Remollo said Tuesday the life-sized statue of President Quezon which is made of bronze is offered as a donation to the city by the College Assurance Plan in Quezon Province.
As a result, the statue of President Hibbard Silliman of the CAP office in Dumaguete will also be donated to Silliman University in this capital city.
However, there is no plan yet to transfer the statue of Dr. Rizal from Quezon Park to the Rizal Boulevard.
Remollo added the forthcoming donation of the statue of Quezon has a bonus because the former president has memorabilia that are most welcome in the soon to be restored original portion of city hall as a national museum.
The mayor is excited to see all these developments happen in one year’s time starting from the restoration of the old portion of city hall to the landscaping in front of the city hall to the Quezon Park up the most iconic structure of the city, which is the “kampanaryo” or belfry of the Cathedral.
