On Thursday afternoon, January, 30, 2020, in a media briefing with the Department of Health (DOH), Secretary Francisco Duque III announced that a 38-year-old female from Wuhan with a history of travel to the Philippines (Hong Kong to Cebu to Dumaguete to Manila) was a confirmed case of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

As a precautionary measure, all patients, visitors, guests and staff members who wish to enter the Hospital premises will be requested to proceed to our designated screening areas near the entrances. This is a preventive protocol to isolate suspected cases and minimize the spread of the virus.

Each one is reminded to remain vigilant and to seek immediate consultation if symptoms such as fever, cough, colds, and difficulty of breathing or shortness of breath are experienced. The Hospital continues to coordinate with the Department of Health for influenza-like illness surveillance and monitoring.

Furthermore, everyone is encouraged to practice proper infection prevention and control measures such as performing frequent hand washing, covering your cough or sneeze, avoiding crowded places, and touching your eyes, nose and mouth with dirty hands, and avoiding consumption of raw, wild and exotic meat.

The SUMCFI values the health and safety of everyone. We hope for your cooperation as we implement the aforementioned safety measures in the Hospital. (Herbert Timtim)
