The Philippine National Police Regional Office 7 awarded Friday morning police personnel in Negros Oriental for their contribution to a successful anti-criminality campaign that led to a national award for the said regional office.

Chief Supt. Prudencio Tom Bañas, PRO-7 regional director, personally gave the awards to a total of 33 police personnel from the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, the Dumaguete police and the Valencia police station.

Talking to the awardees briefly, Chief Supt. Bañas personally thanked them for their contribution in making PRO-7 this year as the number one PNP regional office nationwide in the fight against criminality.

The PRO-7 received a Presidential streamer last August from President Aquino III during the 114th anniversary of the PNP at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

This is the first time for PRO-7 to garner the said award, he added.

The selected awardees on Friday received medals which Chief Supt. Bañas described as something which they can wear proudly as part of the achievement of PRO-7.

He explained that his visit to Negros Oriental Friday is not just to award the police personnel for their respective contributions in the anti-criminality campaign, specifically against illegal drugs and loose firearms, but to also thank them for their contribution to the latest achievement of PRO-7, before changes take place with the implementation of the recently created Negros Island Region.

Once the NIR will take effect, a separate PNP regional office will be set up and Negros Oriental will no longer be a part of PRO-7.

The awardees from the Dumaguete police station who received the Medalya ng Kasanayan (Efficiency Medal) include Insp. Luis Lacandula, Insp. Phillipedes Sillero, SPO4 Edgardo Caducoy, SPO4 Elvira Catadman, SPO1 Jonathan Abucayon, PO3 Rolando Jamosmos, PO3 Roger Salve, PO2 Richard Vincent Binarao, PO2 John Mark Buquiran, PO1 Ernie Acabal and PO1 Rowel Peral.

The received the award “in recognition of their commendable effort and immeasurable contribution to the notable achievement” of PRO-7 in garnering the Achievement Unit Award in the Campaign Against Organized Crime Groups nationwide.

For the Medalya ng Paputi (Commendation Medal), personnel of the Dumaguete City Police Station who received it were the OIC police chief, Supt. Jovito Atanacio, Chief Insp. Benedict Poblete, Sr. Insp. Ryan Jay Orapa, SPO4 Mariel Abiera, SPO2 Cyrus. Orcullo, SPO1 Reydolfo Leonor, SPO1 Carlo Desano, PO1 Roger Rubio, PO1 Harris Basañez and PO1 Retoni Jun Escala.

They were recognized for their sustained efforts in the campaign against illegal drugs, specifically that which led to the arrest of Norman Nikolai Romero Tantengo, 47 years old, of Bais City, who was arrested last Aug 22 in Dumaguete which yielded some 30.87 grams of suspected shabu.

Finally, the third set of awardees who also received the Medalya ng Kasanayan are from the Valencia police station, namely, Chief Insp. Alfonso Enriquez, Insp. Nelson Dales, SPO4 Virgilio R. Anqui, SPO3 Larry Tatoy, SPO2 Monico Cubalan Jr., SPO2 Elino dela Zerna, PO3 Eugene Catalbas, PO3 Ava Phyllis Llamada, PO2 Junryl Ijan, PO2 Franklin Orcullo, PO2 Herley Sangasin and PO1 Joram Equia.
