Negros Oriental Provincial Tourism Unit (PTU) invites homeowners interested to host tourists to register for a homestay training at PTU Office, Sidlakang Negros Village, Dumaguete Office.

The program comes under the Homestay Program of the Department of Tourism (DOT7) in Central Visayas,

Homestays are a living arrangements with a host family, that offers an extra private room or space for tourists for a reasonable charge.

The host homeowner offers the guests “a home away from home”.

DOT provides homeowners with training on the homestay program so they can give guests a quality tourism experience.

To be an accredited homestay, owners and their staff are required to undergo basic skills in handling guests as well as trainings on safety and security, cleanliness, housekeeping, among others so that the guests will have a wonderful encounter or experience during their stay.

This is a province-wide training for families and their caretakers to ensure that the finest hospitality welcomes tourists in Negros Oriental.

“We invite homeowners in the province willing to accommodate paying guests in their spare rooms and share the Filipino family experience with them,” said Myla Mae Bromo-Abellana, Senior Tourism Operations Officer.

The training will run for seven days and DOT-7 personnel will inspect the rooms and houses of those interested.

Abellana said the Homestay Program will enlarge the number of clean, comfortable and fully-furnished rooms in the area to accommodate the increase in tourism traffic coming into Negros Oriental while delivering economic benefits directly to participants.

For further details, interested parties may contact the Provincial Tourism Unit with telephone numbers (035) 225-1825 or 422-0675 at the Sidlakang Negros Village, Piapi, Dumaguete and look for Ruvilu Lumacao and Antonette Lestor. (jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
