The Philippine Statistics Authority in Negros Oriental is warning establishments, institutions, government agencies and other similar entities of sanctions for rejecting the digital version of the national identification.

Ariel Fortuito, PSA-Negros Oriental chief statistical specialist and provincial head, told the Philippine News Agency on Monday that they have written several government and private entities that did not honor the digital national ID.

“So far, no one has been penalized or sanctioned yet as they complied with law after they were called out,” Fortuito said.

He emphasized that three Philippine Identification System versions are legitimate government IDs that can be used for any transaction.

These are the physical ID card, which is distributed through the Philippine Postal Corp.; the electronic or e-Phil ID, which the PSA distributes as an alternative while waiting for the physical card; and the digital version that can be downloaded from the agency’s website.

Fortuito also recommended that the e-Phil ID be laminated to protect the paper from wear and tear.

Meanwhile, he announced that the PSA will soon roll out machines to different provincial offices for the printing of physical national ID cards. (PNA)
