The National Statistics Office here is appealing for public support as NSO gears up for another round of quarterly surveys from this month until November.
Provincial Census Officer Engr. Ariel Fortuito, in an interview, urged residents whose households have been chosen for the survey to cooperate with the enumerators when they visit their homes.
“Please cooperate with our statistical researchers and entertain them and answer their questions as this is important information that they are collecting from you for our country’s development,” said Fortuito.
NSO is set to field a total of 13 statistical researchers throughout Negros Oriental next week to conduct three surveys simultaneously: the Quarterly Labor Force Survey, 2011 Survey on Children and the Survey on Overseas Filipinos.
“There are 22 towns and cities here that will be covered by the survey, “ said Fortuito.
In a meeting with information officers from government and non-government agencies recently, Fortuito revealed their difficulties with uncooperative respondents.
“Some household owners would hide and pretend that nobody is home when they see the NSO enumerator on their doorstep. Others would just refuse to entertain them at all,” he said.
NSO is mandated by Commonwealth Act No. 591 “to conduct by enumeration, sampling or other methods, for statistical purposes, studies of social and economic problems in the country. “
The data gathered by NSO will become the basis for policy planners in crafting socio-economic and
political development programs for the country. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
