Almost 1,500 public school teachers from Negros Oriental and Siquijor provinces went through a mass training for Grade 9 teachers at the Silliman University campus. This is in line with Department of Education‘s K to 12 Basic Education Program.
The event, which started May 16 and ended May 21, aimed to build the capacity of Grade 9 teachers to appreciate the K to 12 coded curriculum, and practice using the curriculum guides, teaching guides, and learning materials.
The mass training also aimed to demonstrate the teacher’s understanding of the issues or concerns relative to content, performance standards, assessment and rating system, identify the most appropriate pedagogies and understand how to localize and indigenize the curriculum, cite concrete measures of interventions to assist all types of students and cite connection of daily teaching and learning to the development of learning outcomes.
Teachers from DepEd, SU, and Negros Oriental State University who participated in the National Training for Teachers last month in Cebu City led the training sessions in seven key areas of education namely Science, Math, Filipino, English, Araling Panlipunan; Music, Arts, Physical Education & Health (MAPEH); and Edukasyon sa Pagkatao.
Participants came from DepEd divisions of Dumaguete City, Bayawan City, Tanjay City, Bais City, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
The training is a partnership between SU and DepEd. It can be recalled that SU is one of the first schools in Central Visayas which comprehensively prepared for the implementation of the K to 12 Program. It also helped other schools in Visayas and Mindanao for the integration of the said education program. (rmn/PIA7-NegOr)
