Government schools especially those in areas where traffic congestion is heavy have been advised by the City administration to set back their fences in compliance with the Traffic Scheme Ordinance of 2002, with the aim ofhelping ease traffic flow.
These government schools include West City Elementary School (bounded by Cervantes St., San Jose Extension, and ML Teves St.); Negros Oriental State University (fenced in by Kagawasan Ave., the Dumaguete North Road, and San Lorenzo Ruiz St.); Negros Oriental High School (bounded by Kagawasan Ave. and Daro-Highway); South City Elementary School (bounded by the Dumaguete South Road and Sto. Niño Road in Mangnao); and North City Elementary/High School (along E.J. Blanco Drive and Hibbard Ave. in Piapi).
Councilor Alan Cordova stressed that when these public schools will comply with the Ordinance, it will ease traffic congestion, and prove safer for the students and faculty.
The request is prompted by the need for additional space for a growing community, and in recognition of the “unimaginable socio-economic problems” as a result of the decades-old traffic congestion particularly in the central business district. (Dems Demecillo)
