READ, READ, READ. Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Edward P. Jones emphasizes the importance of reading in developing one’s skill in writing. “The best foundation of writing is reading,” Jones advised young writers on how they could improve their writing skills, during a press conference on Nov. 14 at the American Studies Resource Center of Silliman University. Jones, whose first novel The Known World won him the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, said his personal experiences and encounters with people are among those that inspire his literary works. His visit to Silliman, which included a reading session with members of the Dumaguete literary community at the scenic Rose Lamb Sobrepeña Writers Village at Camp Look-out in Valencia, was coordinated by the United States Embassy in Manila.
