If awards are an indication of a job well done, the current administration of Dumaguete City is getting national praises for good governance.

Recently, Dumaguete was awarded The Seal of Good Local Governance by the Department of Interior & Local Government, and the ATOP-DOT Pearl Award by the Department of Tourism.

These awards were given in recognition of the great strides shown by the City in improving the economy, peace and order, gender sensitivity, education, health and other parameters.

Of course, there are problems here and there; there’s always room for improvement. The way the City is run may be far from perfect, but the awards tell us that the glass is more than half-full.

As of this writing, there are now three candidates for City Mayor, and many more for City Councilor in the May 2016 elections. Who among these candidates stand the chance of sustaining or surpassing these accomplishments?

Choosing the right candidate can spell the big difference for the City. We should scrutinize each candidate and examine their competence and track record.

We have seven months to choose the one who can propel us to greater heights.

To these candidates, we wish you well in your quest for the top posts of the City.
