The Dumaguete City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (DCADAC), chaired by City Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria, has resolved that bringing together all sectors in the community for rallies against the proliferation of drugs and abuse could be an effective means in curbing the menace.

When last school year was about to close, the City Council, through yours truly, visited and organized school-based anti-drug abuse councils in various high schools in the City of Dumaguete. This council shall be responsible for creating, initiating, and supervising school-based anti-drug advocacies.

The DCADAC is also initiating the reorganization of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils through yours truly again, and in cooperation with the PNP-Dumaguete.

The BADAC is chaired by the barangay captain, whose members are representatives from the different sectors such as the school principal, the PTA president, the homeowners’ association president, and representatives from religious groups.

The function of BADAC is to execute plans and programs relative to anti-drug advocacies, and provide funds for such activities.

DCADAC is composed of members representing NGOs, POs, and government. This is to ensure that the anti-drug endeavors in the City are achieved to secure a holistic and consistent approach in our war against drugs.

The problem of drug abuse is everybody’s concern. Unless all sectors in the community rallied together against drug proliferation and abuse, we will all be losers in this battle. Winning the battle against drugs is just like winning our spiritual battle against evil by getting involved as part of the solution.

Sangguniang Kabataan president Cyrine Lee Mapili has thought of organizing a youth ambassadors club for anti-drug advocacies. One youth ambassador in each purok would serve as our youth model of an exemplar life lived for the glory of God and in the service of man.
