The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines on Monday said it has completed the reconductoring of the 69kV line at its substation in Amlan, Negros Oriental.
Michelle Visera of NGCP-Visayas told the media in an interview that the replacement of bigger transmission lines will ensure the delivery of stable power to areas served by the substation.
“NGCP is 100 percent complete in the reconductoring of the transmission lines served by the Amlan 69kV line aimed at preventing further manual load dropping during peak load, especially in Dumaguete City which has the highest demand for power,” Visera said.
“Unless there are emergencies, MLD will no longer be a problem for the Amlan 69kV line as it can now supply more power to areas serviced through the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative,” she added.
The NGCP carried out scheduled power interruptions of up to 12 hours on Feb. 16, March 9, March 22, and April 6 for the reconductoring project after the 69kV line reached “critical” status.
Areas affected by the power interruptions were San Jose, Sibulan, Dumaguete, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita and Siaton.
Visera said the NGCP brought in teams from other provinces to hasten the project before the May 12 national and local elections.
She also reiterated the reconductoring is just a temporary solution to the power demand while the NGCP is still constructing its 138kV line connecting Amlan to this capital city.
The new line project hit a snag after some private property owners refused to give a right-of-way to NGCP, with negotiations still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Visera appealed to the public to refrain from posting on social media unverified information regarding power interruptions as it may cause undue public worry.

Visera said neither NGCP nor NORECO II made the announcement, noting that the year 2026 was a ‘red flag’ by itself.
