As the song goes, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

For some, it used to be. The magic of Christmas changes with age.

As kids, we would go to church, gather around the Christmas tree, sing carols, give and receive gifts, and eat good food.

It’s not quite like that these days anymore, especially with the technological advances like cellphones and tablets which have replaced meaningful conversations and prayer time.

Filipinos today are worried over the current state of the country. A recent survey by the Social Weather Stations revealed that 80 percent of Filipinos — or four people out of every five –worry about Extra Judicial Killings which has claimed over 6000 lives and counting.

They support the anti-drug war of the Administration BUT worry about EJKs.

It’s a wonder how they think these two are not one and the same.

The tolerance of this government to territorial encroachment by foreign countries in the Spratleys and Scarborough Shoal is another cause for worry. Then there’s graft and corruption committed by people close to the President. And there’s no news that they have ever been charged.

Our leader openly curses God, and pushes us far beyond our comfort zones. And God seemingly allows it.

Where is God this Christmas?

He is here, now. Regardless of what we think, see, and hear, God assures us of his love, and that is why we celebrate Christmas because regardless of what we–the President included — have all done, God gave his son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrificial lamb for our sins. That is what we, as Christians, believe about Christmas.

The Christian world has been celebrating Christmas for the last 2000 years. Christmas has not changed. We have.

The reason we celebrate Christmas each year is to remind us of Jesus’ birth. It gives us hope of better days to come.

So let’s continue to greet each other Merry Christmas!

Regardless.
