A probationer is back in jail after his arrest yesterday with millions of pesos worth of shabu in the hinterland barangay of Siapo, San Jose, Negros Oriental.

Joint operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, Special Operations Group, the Provincial Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the San Jose Police Station, swooped down in a secluded sitio Guinlusoran of barangay Siapon as part of the anti-drug operation. Siapo is seven kilometres from the Poblacion and the target area can be reached by walking two to three kilometres.

Arrested through buy-bust is Denaquiel Ciano, who was arrested for the same offense two years ago, plea bargained and is on probation. However, intelligence reports showed that he’s back in the business and had been verified from previous arrests where his name surfaced as one of the sources of the supply of shabu in Negros Oriental.

Recovered from his possession included 19 bultos of shabu weighing 1.5 kilograms more or less with an estimated dangerous drugs board value of P10.2 million, buy-bust money and other illegal drugs paraphernalia.

The joint team is led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo Alarcon Jr., who is at the same time OIC of the Dumaguete City Police.

He said Ciano’s arrest had connections with previous drug haul in Dumaguete during the Buglasan, and with the forthcoming fiesta of the city, authorities are up on their toes to prevent entry of illegal drugs, as one of the marching orders of City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo.

Meanwhile, two persons deprived of liberties (PDL) at the Negros Oriental Detention and Rehabilitation Center (NODRC) were placed in an isolation room after found in their possession one pack of cigarette which is not allowed. And while inside the “bartolina”, they were caught sniffing shabu by Security Officer 1 Joven Villa. Thus, a case for violation of Section 5 and Section 11 of RA 9165 is being readied against the two PDLs identified as Howard Cabano who is facing a case for illegal drugs and Wilcharles Lazarte who is jailed for rape charges.

On the other hand, PDEA agents with their K-9 unit conducted a surprise inspection at the district jail in Bajumpandan yesterday morning. PDEA provincial team leader Agent Grace Cruz disclosed no drugs were found. (Juancho Gallarde)
