The Provincial Government of Negros Oriental has filed an Urgent Motion to Resolve its Verified Petition for Exception to the building height regulations stipulated in City Ordinance No. 82, Series of 2013.
Provincial Legal Officer Alpha Mabylle Barillo, representing the Provincial government, filed the appeal last Friday to the Board of Zoning Appeals to act immediately on the pending petition.
The original Verified Petition was submitted on April 7, following the denial by the City Zoning Officer of a Preliminary Zoning Compliance Clearance for the proposed Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Medical City, specifically for its main hospital building and the Medical Arts building.
According to the motion, the Provincial government emphasized that the delay in action by the Board of Zoning Appeals has hindered the progression of the hospital project, which is envisioned to improve health care access for the province, particularly benefiting residents from low-income communities.
“A favorable action would be for the best interest of the people of Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City, especially those coming from the poor sector, who deserve quality health services,” the motion stated.
The petition seeks an exemption from the building height limit under Section 27.2 of the zoning ordinance, which the planned structures of the hospital reportedly exceed.
As of Friday afternoon, the Board of Zoning Appeals was yet to issue any official response regarding the motion.
The Negros Oriental Medical City project is one of the flagship health infrastructure developments of the Provincial Government and is seen as a critical upgrade to the existing health services in the region. (PR)
