Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Gomez is the newly-installed president of Colegio de Sta. Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA).

Father Gomez takes the reins from Rev. Fr. Enrique Balongag, who is now vice-president for Academic Affairs, and overall director of the Diocese of Catholic Schools.

Father Gomez is not new to COSCA since he also served the school from 1980 until he was assigned president in 1985, when it was still called Dumaguete Cathedral College.

“But I’ve been gone a long time, and there have been a lot of positive changes,” he noted. He said his predecessor Father Eking has done a “really good job” at COSCA.

He said he is now challenged to revise the organizational structure, review the faculty manual and the student handbook, improve some facilities, and hopefully maximize on the College’s relationship with the parents and students.

Currently, there are 732 students enrolled at COSCA, many of whom are in Criminology.

COSCA is better known for producing graduates who excel in Hotel & Restaurant Management, and in Criminology.

The 64-year-old Fr. Gomez grew up in Amlan and studied at Bio-os Elementary School and at St. Joseph Seminary School for high school. He took AB Philosophy & Theology from the Seminaryo Mayor de San Carlos in Cebu. (Miel Juntocan & Richelle Lou Osumo/SU Masscom interns)
