The Silliman University Alumni Association held a second press conference to announce the holding of the running event dubbed as the “Silliman Run 2011: Run to Educate” on Sunday, August 7.

The fund-raising event will start and end at the Gate of Knowledge. It is aimed at generating funds for university scholarship programs, said Engr. Siegfried Sia, president of the Silliman University Cebu Alumni Association, Inc., the organizer of this activity.

This Sunday’s run, Sia said, was inspired by the success of the first Silliman Run held last year at the Ayala Center Cebu. They aim to get 3000 participants.

He said 3000 runners could support the tuition fees of at least four scholars for four years.

Yolanda Maxino, executive secretary of the SU Alumni Association, Inc., said this run is one of the fund-raising activities of the association in support of its scholarship program.

“The event will be a way of bringing Sillimanians together and discover friends. It will also raise the level of awareness of all Sillimanians that there are still other students they can help,” said Engr. Sia.

This event, he said, is open even to non-Sillimanians.

There will be three categories: 1.1K (for school children and the elderly), 5.5K (for young adults), and 11K (for running enthusiasts and professionals). Registration fees are Php 300 for 1.1k and 5.5k, and Php 350 for 11K. Registration is inclusive of singlet, race bib, snacks, drinks, prizes, and commemorative pins for the top 200 runners.
