The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is scheduled to meet with the members of the mountaineering groups in Negros Oriental to discuss safety precautions and prevent any untoward incidents during mountain climbing activities.
The Cuernos de Negros mountain range of Negros Oriental that straddles the boundaries of Valencia and Dauin towns is now becoming a favorite mountain climbing destination of mountaineering groups and trekking enthusiasts.
Earlier, two groups of inexperienced mountain climbing enthusiasts were rescued near the Casaroro Falls of Valencia. The two groups, consisting of 25 members, trekked through different trails while climbing the mountains of Valencia. Unfortunately, both groups were lost in the forest due to bad weather and met up in the area near the Casaroro Falls.
Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo said the mountain climbing enthusiasts were soaking wet and had run out of provisions.
The Search and Rescue team of Valencia immediately dispatched and successfully rescued the groups.

Governor Roel Degamo ordered the members of the PDRRMC to set a meeting with the mountaineering groups in Negros Oriental so that no untoward incident will happen again.
Degamo clarified that he has nothing against mountain climbing but it should only be done by professional and experienced mountain climbers.
According to Degamo, since he assumed as governor, at least two incidents were reported of groups of mountain climbers being trapped in the mountains of Negros Oriental.
Sedillo said the PDRRMC will convene at the soonest possible time with the mountaineering groups and will also invite representatives from the local government units of Valencia and Dauin where the entry points of the mountain climbers are located.
They are hoping that all mountain climbing activities will be properly recorded and regulated by local authorities. (PNA)
