Crew members of different types of sea vessels are encouraged to enroll in the Modified Basic Safety Training to be held Feb. 20 in Dauin, Negros Oriental.

The MBST is a requirement for individuals to acquire a certification of completion so they can be legitimate crew members of motorized bancas, tourist boats, whale-watching and dolphin-watching boats, dive boats, passenger motorized bancas, fishing boats and other similar sea craft.

Crest, a company certified by the Maritime Industry Authority will conduct the said training in Dauin, according to Harold Biglete of Harold’s Dive Shop in Dumaguete City.

A fee of about P1,500.00 per person is required.

Biglete is calling on operators and owners of motorized bancas plying the routes like Apo Island and Sibulan, Negros Oriental to Liloan, Cebu, dolphin-watching in Bais City, and fishing vessels from Siaton to Bayawan to take the MBST here.

It is a rare opportunity and is cost-cutting as well because they no longer need to travel to Cebu City to take the Modified Basic Safety Training course there, Biglete added. (PNA/JFP)
