Cong. Chiquiting Sagarbarria has decried rumors — which he blamed on his political opponents — that those who do not join the prayer rally will be stricken off the list of beneficiaries for ayuda (financial assistance).
“That is fake news because I never said such a thing,” Sagarbarria told reporters.
He said this kind of information is actually meant to threaten the voters.
“That is not my style. You have never heard me resorting to threats,” he said.
Sagarbarria cited a recent visit he made in Sta. Catalina where all but three barangay captains participated. The three absent barangay captains had sent word that they were voting instead for the opponent of his son, Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria.
“I said, that’s all right. If you are voting for our opponent, that is your right. What can I do?”
But Sagarbarria said his parting words to supporters of their opponents are: “This is just politics. After elections, we will still be friends, okay?”
He said since he entered politics, he has not uttered a threat to other people. “But apparently, that is the only style [threatening others] our opponents know of.” (PR)
