Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has assured members of the Liga ng mga Barangays in the city of continued support.
“Whether or not I am your mayor, my heart will always be in the city of Dumaguete,” Mayor Sagabarria announced during the Christmas party of the Liga ng mga Barangays recently.
Sagarbarria said he had worked very hard with the barangays for the past five years and a half through bottoms up management style and that he considered the barangay officials as his political family.
The mayor claimed he made a difference in the life of the city, and for that he can truly say that Dumaguete is really a city of gentle people and is the best retirement place in the country.
Sagarbarria said a considerable amount of money is allotted for the barangays in next year’s budget, with each barangay being allotted two million pesos for road concreting projects that they have identified.
This is aside from the regular ten million pesos for their discretion to be divided correspondingly to all the barangays depending on the size of the population.
With this, the mayor said it would be a very busy year for the city engineer’s office even as funding will also be appropriated for flood control projects to make sure residents along the stretch of Banica River will be safer this time.
In his last Christmas message as the mayor of Dumaguete, Sagarbarria summarized his accomplishments in the 34 awards that he received in working side by side with the barangays being the forefront in local governance.
This was capped with the highest award so far given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) which is the Best Legislative Award for the Dumaguete City council headed by Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr, the recognition of which will be received on Thursday, December 17 in Cebu City.
Dumaguete is not anymore the city of yesterday, but a blooming city with investments forthcoming, and increased opportunity for livelihood, opportunity to make business in the city, including job generation opportunities, and the like.
Meanwhile, Sagarbarria quoted Mr. John Go, the owner of Robinsons, as saying he takes pride in receiving the recognition of having the best mall in Dumaguete in its size category and that the business had plans of enticing, convincing more investors to put up their investments in the city.
According to Sagarbarria, he was assured by Go to convince his circle of friends to locate their businesses in Dumaguete due to a very favorable business climate in the province, with the presence of the geothermal, a conflict manageable and development ready province, among others. (PNA)
