Santacruzan festival winner named

Barangay Buñao romped away with the championship trophy in the recently-concluded Santacruzan Festival last May 26.

Barangay Buñao led by barangay Captain Lionel Banogon received P50,000 cash prize for the champion plus trophy.

Barangay Piapi garnered the 1st runner up, who accepted also a cash prize of P30,000 and a trophy.

The 2nd runner-up award was bagged by Barangay Poblacion 7, who got P20,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Other winners for minor awards went to Barangay Buñao, Best in Choreography and Best in Street Dancing.

For Best Production Design, Barangay Piapi got another P10,000 and a trophy, while Poblacion 7 got Best in Costume.

The Festival Queen for this year comes from Barangay Motong, Reyna Esperanza. She symbolizes the virtue of hope, who also received P5,000 plus a trophy.

Non-winning barangays received P10,000 each as consolation prizes.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria lauded the City Tourism Council and the Tourism Office led by Woodrow Maquiling Jr. for a job well done.

The activity ended with a fireworks display with the GMA Kapuso showbiz personalities at the Quezon Park. (mbcn/JCT/PIA)
