Negros Oriental Provincial Board Member Nilo Sayson, who is the current president of the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Alumni Association, has decried social and broadcast media attacks against him accusing him of anomalies and other issues.

Sayson issued his statement Thursday evening in reaction to complaints from some quarters, especially alumni of the only state university in Negros Oriental, ranging from his “questionable” term in office, the absence of an election for a new set of officers and alleged misuse of alumni funds.

According to him, these accusations are baseless and unfounded, adding that he has not touched a single centavo from alumni association funds and being president of the association is voluntary in nature.

He pointed out that he has served in different capacities in other associations and was never once accused of misuse of funds.

Sayson challenged those who are questioning his purported extended stay in office to attend the general assembly of the NORSU Alumni Association in March 2016 so that their concerns will be addressed.

He was referring to a letter by a certain Marlon Padayhag requesting that an election be held this year as Sayson’s three-year term supposedly expires at the end of November 2016.

Padayhag, former president of the Supreme Student Government and a Trustee of the then Central Visayas Polytechnic College (CVPC) before the school was converted to state university, in an earlier interview said he has not yet received a reply to his letter regarding the election.

Other NORSU alumni are also supporting Padayhag’s move for an election, which they would have wanted before the November alumni homecoming.

But Sayson insists that the Constitution and By-Laws of the association that stipulates a three-year term for the alumni association president has been amended and is now pending with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Sayson lamented what he describes as unfair and unjust accusations hurled against him on social media.

Board Member Sayson said he will answer all the allegations against him as he asked all alumni to attend the March 2017 general assembly so that these problems can be threshed out. (PNA/JFP)
