The School Press Advisers Movement Inc., a national organization of campus advisers, honored GMA News pillars Mike Enriquez and Howie Severino in a national convention for campus journalism held recently in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Mike Enriquez, co-anchor of GMA Network’s flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras and host of the hard-hitting public affairs program Imbestigador, won the Award of Excellence in the Field of Broadcasting for his “excellent and socially relevant broadcasts and for maintaining the stature of a credible and respected media practitioner over the years.” Enriquez is also GMA Network’s Consultant to the Chairman and CEO for Radio Operations.
Multi-awarded documentarist Howie Severino, one of the hosts of the Network’s longest-running documentary program I-Witness and co-anchor of GMA News TV’s morning newscast News To Go, received the award for Best in Documentary Reportage for his “excellent and socially relevant documentaries.” He is also the Network’s vice-president for Multimedia Journalism.
The School Press Advisers Movement Inc. aims to “unite campus journalism educators in the Philippines and offer affordable training and eventually reach out to deserving institutions that need assistance in the establishment of their publications or training of their writers.”
The awards were conferred at the opening of the organization’s 7th Annual National SPAM Convention and the 4th SPAM National Journalism Quiz Bee: Pambansang Pautakang Pampahayagan. (Iris Joy Abarquez)
