U.S. Embassy Manila is accepting applications for two Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative 2016 Fellowship programs.

Academic fellowships. YSEALI members aged 18-25 are invited to apply in three distinct fields: Religious Pluralism; Civic Engagement; and Social Entrepreneurship & Economic Development.

YSEALI Academic Fellowships are five-week intensive academic programs in the United States that provide undergraduate and recently graduated student leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States, while enhancing their leadership skills.

The application deadline for the Institute of Religious Pluralism is Oct. 14. Applications for the Civic Engagement, and Social Entrepreneurship & Economic Development Fellowships are due Oct. 23.

Professional fellowships. Young professionals aged 25-35 are invited to apply for the YSEALI Professional Fellowship Program in either Legislative Process & Governance or Economic Empowerment.

The PFP is a professional development exchange that brings talented community leaders in the fields of civic engagement, NGO management, economic empowerment, governance, legislative process, and environmental and natural resources management to the United States for month-long fellowships at U.S.-based NGOs, government offices, or legislative bodies.

With the practical experience, leadership skills, and professional contacts gained through the exchanges, fellows then work with local community leaders to address issues in their home communities.

Application deadline for the YSEALI PFP is Dec. 1.

Application forms and additional information can be found on the YSEALI page of the U.S. Embassy Manila website.

Launched in 2013 by U.S. President Barack Obama, YSEALI engages bright young leaders aged 18-35 years from ASEAN nations, including the Philippines, to contribute innovative ideas for tackling their generation’s greatest challenges: economic development, environmental protection, civic engagement, and education.

YSEALI members engage with peers from around the country and around ASEAN to create local solutions to regional challenges.

YSEALI provides professional and academic skills-building, and opportunities to put those skills into action through exchanges to the US, professional development workshops in the region, online networking, and project seed money. (PR)
