The Dumaguete City Septage Facility in barangay Camanjac was awarded for best Innovative and Good Nutrition project in the Region and recognized as “World Class Low Cost Septage Management System” during the 8th Regional Nutrition Action Officers Congress & 2012 Grand Nutrition Awards held at Cebu Business Park held Friday.
City Nutrition Action Officer Lourdes Taburaza received the Plaque of Recognition in behalf of Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria in Cebu City.
Taburaza said the National Nutrition Council-7 through Regional Nutrition Committee cited the Dumaguete Septage facility for realizing the need for a sanitary sewer system due to the high level of pollution of Dumaguete’s coastal waters.
The City of Dumaguete had earlier participated in the USAID Local Initiatives for Affordable Wastewater Treatment (LINAW) Program.
The award pointed out that after the treatment facility was completed in May 2010, it has minimized the adverse effects of wastewater to public health and has reduced the deteriorative impact of wastewater on the environment.
Meanwhile, Lanilyn Orlina of Barangay Motong, Dumaguete City, also received her as City Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Region 7.
Taburaza said Orlina has been serving underprivileged families in the community for 8 years. She also initiated the sowing of eggplant seeds and distributed the seedlings to the parents of the undernourished children in her barangay. Orlina also initiated the raising of native chicken, which she distributes to the parent-beneficiaries who, in return, will give two chicken offsprings as payment.
She, also an advocate of a healthy lifestyle and trained volleyball to children her barangay, Orlina involved in several community activities and active member of the Motong Barangay Womens Organization, Taburaza added.
