For about three months now, majority of the shipping lines serving the Dumaguete pier have been operating their ticketing booths within the FAR alley located at the port zone. About four other shipping lines are expected to relocate in the FAR Alley by the end of the month.

City Administrator Lilani Ramon said the Mayor had designated the FAR Alley as a one-stop shop for travellers needing tickets from any of the various shipping companies.

The arrangement between the City government and the Philippine Ports Authority for a centralized facility was in response to the public’s clamor for safety, orderliness, convenience, and ease in purchasing boat tickets.

Conducting official ticketing business along the FAR Alley also hopes to prevent “fixers” from taking advantage of sea travelers.

For the longest time, local boat travellers and tourists alike would queue along the busy road, rain or shine, with dust and grime, to secure tickets from dilapidated makeshift “ticketing offices” representing big shipping companies.

While the Philippine Ports Authority is responsible for financing, managing, and operating public ports in the country, including that of the Dumaguete port, civil works by the City Engineer’s Office continue to improve at the FAR Alley for the benefit of both the businessmen operating the ticketing offices of the shipping lines and the travelling clientele.
