The Negros Oriental Philippine National Police provincial office has recorded a total of 53 shooting incidents in the province since the start of the election period last January 13, according to deputy provincial police director Supt. Alet Virtucio.

However, not a single shooting incident has been directly linked to Philippine politics at the height of the campaign period for Monday’s mid-term elections, said Supt. Virtucio on Thursday.

According to him, two cases — one in Jimalalud town and the other in the municipality of Sibulan — are being considered as potential election-related violence but this could not be verified in the absence of witnesses or formal complaints. (PNA/JFP)
