The director for Strategic Partnerships at Silliman University spoke before delegates to the ASEAN Young Leaders Forum co-hosted by the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia on Oct. 18 at Shangrila Hotel in Mactan, Cebu.

Dr. Jenny Lind Elmaco from the office of the Vice President for Development was one of the panelists in the international forum.

The forum for young scientists was held in conjunction with the 10th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science & Technology hosted this year by the Philippines. The forum’s theme was The Role of Young Leaders towards a Shared Vision of 2050.

The ASEAN Young Scientists Network was also launched during the event. The establishment of the ASEAN Foresight Alliance, and the ASEAN Young Scientists Network as a synergized initiative is expected to facilitate evidence-based planning for ASEAN member-countries in developing their national policies, strategies and action plans, as well as to harness the talent and drive of young researchers in the region to fully implement the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology & Innovation by 2025.

The Europe-trained Dr. Elmaco was invited to be panelist in the forum as an expert in international collaborative projects and researcher mobility, a distinguished scholar-practitioner in the field of peace and security, gender and development, sustainable business, and disruptive innovation. She continues to write for the MetroPost as columnist. (PR)
