Save energy.
This is the campaign of the Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative to its member-consumers in the wake of the expected adjustment in electric rates next month.
This is nothing new, of course. We’ve heard of energy-saving campaigns even from way back. Many of us have even been through worse times, like the Energy Crisis that gripped the country in the ‘70s.
Economic growth forecasts have been tempered this year because of the rising fuel prices and the prospect of lower dollar remittances from OFWs who lost their jobs because of the crisis gripping many countries in the Middle East. So with Filipino OFWs affected by the natural calamities in Japan.
But the reality is that despite all these writings on the wall of more hard times ahead, we still see many examples of wastage around us–street lights which remain on even during the daytime, unrepaired leaking water pipes or faucets, and many more.
Indeed, the challenge is not just for us to save energy. The challenge is to save whatever we could. With the problems besetting many parts of the world today, we are headed for harder times ahead. You don’t have to think big. Every small step would go a long way.
What will you do today?
