Something Indie, hippie, and chill
The best way to describe Bugtaw, that is.
Took me three years to finally step foot inside the restaurant. Why? I don’t know: no time? Out of the way? But surely, I wish I did it sooner.
Well, we did order before food from Bugtaw through GrabFood, and eat it at home. But it’s truly a different experience when you get to taste their food right inside the restaurant.
The restaurant-feel actually brings you to the old Dumaguete. Very chill, laid back, and most everyone dining in there seemed to feel like there was no need to attend to any rush in the world.
At Bugtaw, it feels like the world slows down a bit for you while you savor your food.
You can see a group of young adults playing chess and other board games; a couple enjoying Vietnamese coffee while chilling in the garden; a group of six rakistas (rock band enthusiasts) jamming in the patio to some OPM songs.
The ambience at Bugtaw feels like that in restaurants we see on TV like Luke’s Diner, the restaurant from 50 First Dates.
The food? Really good! Tuna Poke Bowl is so fresh, the salsa perfectly cuts the richness of the fish well. ABDXL’S Combo is the best tofu fish I’ve had in a while. It’s pickled-fried-tossed with some fresh herbs and spices. Ruby Rosa tastes earthy-good, refreshing, and light. And the Chicken Wings are FIRE, too.
Overall, I think Bugtaw deserves more credit than what it has now.
Adding an aircon might invite more families. (I heard they’re planning on it soon.)
Perfect for dates, catch-ups, or simply, for tambay (hangout). Surely, Bugtaw, located by the entrance to Amigo Subdivision in Piapi, is part of Dumaguete’s #NextLegends.
