For a City and Province accustomed to unsolved killings, not a few people thought that the murder of Dindo Generoso would end up as one of the many killings that have earned our place an infamous recognition.
We’ve had several of these unsolved killings these past few years and we have yet to see the light of day in the cases of Edmund Sestoso and Board Member Miguel Dungog, and in faraway Guihulngan City, Dr. Avelex Amor, Atty. Anthony Trinidad and the two public school teachers, siblings Anthony and Ardale Bayawa, to name a few.
But the speed at which the authorities identified the suspects in the Generoso killing proved to be a welcome surprise.

Thanks to the City’s investment in CCTV cameras, the vehicles used, the route taken by the killers and even the actual crime itself were recorded in high definition. Eventually, the vehicle’s conduction sticker established the identity of the owner and the driver of the vehicle, who identified the gunman and the driver of the motorcycle that trailed Generoso’s car on that fateful morning.
Of course, all that technology would not have mattered if the policemen investigating the murder could not piece the evidences together to come up with one big story.
For this, we laud the City of Dumaguete and the police for their exemplary work. With a substandard police-civilian ratio, having CCTVs is proving to be a great equalizer in crime fighting.
We could only hope the other LGUs install CCTVs and have the competent people to man them and analyze what they see on the monitor.
Kudos!
