Sports, culinary, talents among fiesta highlights

The 171st Charter Anniversary of Dumaguete City will highlight the city’s growing reputation as a top sports tourism destination, rich cuisine and locals with diverse talents.

City Councilor Michael Bandal invites everyone to join the festivities and events approved by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo to celebrate the Charter Anniversary and 399th Feast in honor of its Patroness St. Catherine of Alexandria.

City Tourism Officer Jacqueline Veloso said that among the major activities that showcase the talents and culinary skills of the locals are: Duma Comida (Quezon Park Nov. 15-24), Hus Humba is D Best! (Nov. 15, 9:00am, Quezon Park), Dumaguete Idol, TM Fun Pinoy Festival (Nov. 15, 5:00PM, Quezon Park) Balak Contest (Nov. 17, 8:00PM, Quezon Park), Miss Dumaguete (Nov. 22, 8:00PM, Macias Sports and Cultural Complex), Dumaguete Bulilit Idol (Nov 18, 7:00PM, Quezon Park), Duma Beat Dance Contest (Nov. 22, 6:00PM, Quezon Park), Dumaguete Teen Idol (Nov. 19, 7:00PM, Quezon Park), Launching of Hugkat Journal Volumes 2 and 3 (Nov. 19, 4:00PM, Paseo Perdices), Dumaguete Idol (Nov. 21, 7:00PM, Quezon Park) and Folk Dance Contest and Balitaw Contest (Nov. 20, 7:00PM, Quezon Park).

For sports tourism, City Sports Coordinator Ike Xavier Villaflores shares the following events: 10-Ball Open Billiard Tournament (Nov. 16, 9:00AM, Baroroy Eatery), Trino Fun Trail for a Cause (6:00AM, Burgos Street), Dumaguete Skateboarding Competition (Nov 22, 1:00PM, Quezon Park), Dumaguete Extreme Cup 2019 (Nov. 23, 6:00AM, Quezon Park), 2nd Dumaguete Motocross Challenge (Nov. 23, 10:00AM, Dgte Business Park), Fiesta Motorshow (Nov. 1:00PM, Citi Mall), Dumaguete Triathlon (Nov. 24, 5:00AM, Plaza Escano.

Finally on the Charter Day itself (Nov. 24), fiesta concelebrated mass will be held at the Dumaguete Cathedral at 8:00AM followed by a grand Civic-Military Parade organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan at 5:00PM, Asian College Talent Night at 6:00PM and Bayle sa Plaza at 7:00PM in Quezon Park.
