The 3 on 3 basketball tournament, organized by the FU Institute for Youth Sports and Peace (IYSPeace) is played with three players on each side on a half basketball court. The teams are given a total of 14 minutes, divided in two halves, to shoot as many goals as they can.
The first 3 days of the games was held at the Robinsons Place, Dumaguete City, and the venue then shifted to the Hypermart last Friday for the semifinal games. The finals games on the 4th day were held at the FU Gymnasium at the north campus.
Fielding their three-member teams were St. Paul University, COSCA, Negros Maritime College and Foundation University. The Women’s teams represented Amigo, Churvabelles, Tamashak, GP Welder, Ballbitz, Banda Manga, and RA Essential. In the Seniors Division, participating teams were PHCCI, Orbs, Capt. Ramil, and Retes.
The three-a-side game plays are most successful when the players are already familiar with each others’ skills, strengths and weaknesses, said Giles Roxas, assistant director of the FU Institute for Youth Sports and Peace, which oversees the tournament. He said that similar to the full basketball game of five players for each side, the key to winning games are strong defense and rebounding skills.
