St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) 4th University President, Sister Mila Grace A. Silab, SPC was officially installed yesterday, September 05, 2022 in an Academic Investiture and Concelebrated Holy Mass with Bishop Julito B. Cortes, D.D. as the Main Celebrant.
The SPC Congregation Provincial Superior, Sister Lilia Therese Tolentino, SPC came to Dumaguete City to officially install the New SPUD President along with Sister Ma. Nilda Masirag, SPC, Assistant Provincial Superior for Education and Sister Rosanne Mallillin, SPC, St. Paul University System Chancellor.
Sister Mila is a nurse by profession and held various positions and assignments across the Philippines like St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo City and St. Paul University Philippines Tuguegarao City thereafter she was appointed Dean of the College of Nursing at St. Paul University Surigao City then Director for Nursing Services at Maria Reyna Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City and in 2010 she was appointed as Dean of the College of Nursing at St. Paul University Dumaguete at the same time as Local Superior of the SPC Sisters in Dumaguete. Responding to another grace-filled journey in 2016 she was appointed as the Second President of St. Paul University Iloilo.
Sister Mila hails from Toledo City, Cebu Province and completed her elementary and secondary education at the Andres Soriano Memorial School – La Salle and graduated her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cebu Doctor’s University. In 1995 she passed the Nurses’ Licensure Examination and worked as Nurse at the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital where she first met the SPC since the said medical institution was administered by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (SPC) and she took her final profession on February 1, 2006.
Sister Mila completed her Theological Studies from the Loyola School of Theology and Master of Science in Nursing Major in Nursing Administration from St. Paul University Philippines Tuguegarao City and at present on her final dissertation of Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science at the same educational institution.
In response to her new assignment and second time in Dumaguete during her inaugural address, she pointed out “I am honored and privileged to be part of the present and future of a university with such rich past. I am humbled to accept the stewardship of a university that for 118 years has served the Church and country through the formation of Christ- centered citizens and socially responsible members and leaders of our society and that has shaped a legacy of excellence in catholic education.”
In attendance to her installation were Presidents of the SPC Universities around the country, Silliman University President, Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann, Negros Oriental State University President, Dr. Joel Limson, Department of Education – Negros Oriental Schools Division Superintendent Senen Priscillo Paulin, Department of Education – Dumaguete City Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, Fr. Enrique Balongag, Superintendent of the Diocesan Schools, SPUD Alumni Association Board headed by Dr. Jose Victor Imbo, Sister Mila’s Family, Guests from Cebu and Iloilo and many others aside from the SPC Sisters in Dumaguete, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Students.
