The first-ever Catholic school in Negros Oriental will be celebrating its 108th founders’ day anniversary on October 25-29 with its theme focusing on its core mission of evangelization.
St. Paul University-Dumaguete (SPUD) is a private Catholic school that was established on October 29, 1904 by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, a congregation in Chartres, France.
The institution first offered elementary education; and in 1920, began to offer its high school education.
Years later, it offered college degrees and in 2004, during its centennial anniversary celebration, it was granted university status.
Rafael Duhaylungsod, director for external affairs of SPUD, said activities highlighting this year’s anniversary include the opening salvo and a Mass, invitational games, acoustic night, academic competitions, students’ night, mass demonstration, partners’ day, a cultural night and a talipapa exhibit.
A grand parade around the city’s major thoroughfares has been set October 26 in the afternoon while a grand alumni homecoming, dubbed Tapok 2012, will be held Oct. 27 starting 3 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Bringing Paulinians Back To Its Core Mission Of Evangelization”. (PNA/JFP)
