The scholarship program of the Energy Development Corp. is providing 487 junior and senior high school students in Valencia, Negros Oriental an opportunity to pursue their education for school year 2017-2018.
Norreen Bautista, head of EDC’s Community Partnerships, External Relations & Watershed Management Group in Negros Island, said the scholarships will benefit 120 students from Pulangbato National High School, 100 from San Pedro Academy Recoletos, 145 from Balugo National High School, and 122 from Valencia National High School.
Now on its 13th year, this scholarship program is a reaffirmation of their commitment to the progress of Valencia, who hosts the geothermal power plants that provide clean, sustainable, and renewable energy 24/7, Bautista said.
The scholarships were awarded in a recent ceremony attended by the students’ parents and Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves, Valencia District Supervisor Dr. Rolando Pacarro, San Pedro Academy-Recoletos Principal Rev. Fr. Roweno Eugenio Hamo, Pulangbato National High School Principal Lorohama Labao, Balugo National High School OIC Nilo Jay Baybay, and Education Division Program Supervisor Katherine Sedillo.
