NEW YORK CITY — A Sillimanian, who is an executive in one of the biggest health systems here, has been selected to receive the United Hospital Fund’s 2024 Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions.
Alfredo Alvarado, Jr., vice president for Operations at the Saint Barnabas Hospital Health Systems in Bronx, New York, will receive the prestigious award at the Tribute to Excellence in Health Care, which will be held on May 6 here.
Alvarado is recognized for his “extraordinary leadership to improve quality of care, patient safety, and/or patient experience” at Saint Barnabas Hospital.
In nominating Alvarado for the award, Robert Church, Saint Barnabas senior vice president, said: “Al is a humble leader who prefers the recognition and accolades be given to frontline staff, but today, he is deserving of this recognition of his leadership and many accomplishments to improving care for all patients.”
Alvarado, a graduate of SU College of Nursing Class 1988 (class honors), began his career at Saint Barnabas in 1999 as assistant director of Nursing. Due to his accomplishments, leadership, and merit, he has had several promotions. His impact as a leader at SBH has had a direct influence on the quality of patient care, the improvement of patient throughput and patient experience, and the efficiency of hospital operations.
He is a member of the SU Alumni Association-New York New Jersey Chapter, and has been recognized by his peers for his generosity of finances, time, and assistance.
As a member of the Philippine Nurses Association-NY, he was given the Nurse Leadership Award in the late 1990s. (JVP)
