SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Sydney Sillimanians’ fund-raising campaign gets a boost big-time with a rousing jump-start from Philippine officials and Australians as well. The Silliman University Alumni Association Sydney Australia Chapter Inc. officially launches the fund-raising with a dinner-dance fellowship on Nov. 5 at the Marconi Club Auditorium, Bossley Park, NSW.
Billeted as A Night of Splendour, the proceeds from the special event is intended to purchase a portable mammogram equipment for the underprivileged women of Negros Oriental through the University-run Marina Clinic in Dauin.
Silliman officials see the unfolding event bridging the geographical gaps as a defining moment of the Silliman Spirit. SU President Ben S. Malayang III said that in showing one Silliman community in Australia, the Sydney Alumni Chapter paints a picture of what Silliman Spirit is all about. He said the gathering demonstrates the strengthening of “the bonds among each other and reinforce that chord that connects you to Silliman University.”
BOT Chair Leonor M. Briones expressed the same faith and hope –”to bond with each other in love and fellowship…provides opportunities to plan and generate projects for our University.” The BOT Chair also commended Silliman alumni chapters in Melbourne, Canada, the US, and the Philippines in atttending and extending support to the activity.
Highlight of the Splendour is the Movement Expressions of Bituing Marikit choreographed by Lucy Jumawan-Sauer, SU’s Outstanding Alumni Awardee in Performing Arts in 2009 with the Sydney Sillimanians themselves as model animators. Lucy says the Movement celebrates the journeys of students from all over the Philippines and the World seeking knowledge in the portals of the Christian institution of higher learning.
