Silliman University (SU) celebrates its 123rd founding anniversary on August 28, 2024 through a month-long celebration centered on the theme, “Today’s Treasures, Tomorrow’s Traditions: Cherishing Silliman’s Gifts.”
During the Founders Day opening service on August 4 at the SU Church, Dr. Elizabeth Susan Vista-Suarez, dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and Founders Day (FD) Committee chair, said that traditionally FD themes “have all reflected an ethos of service, trusting through faith that God is our hope. He has been faithful in the past, so will he continue to be in the future.”
Among the highlights of this year are the 108th Silliman University Church anniversary; the Silliman Performs, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium with shoes on August 24 and 26; the 62nd Outstanding Sillimanians Awards on August 28; numerous Balik Talent lectures conducted by all academic units of the University; and activities planned by the SU Student Government and various alumni groups.
The logo for the 123rd Silliman University Founders Day was designed by Jhana Trinidad, a second year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student. Trinidad says that her logo design “honors Silliman University by showcasing its rich history… It is inspired by the University’s seal and emblems — the torch, the lighted lamp, and the Bible — which embody the values and dreams nurtured in Silliman.
