Among the highlights of the visit of the 17-member delegation from California’s Alameda City were two simultaneous fora with representatives from the business and education sectors in Dumaguete where Silliman University played a key role in exploring programs that would promote cultural exchange and immersion.
The visit of officials from California, led by Alameda Mayor Trish Spencer, from Nov. 23 to 26 aimed to explore how both cities can operationalize the terms of its sisterhood partnership agreement.
Silliman presented its academic offerings and community-oriented initiatives, encouraging Filipino-Americans in the Bay Area to pursue studies or a portion of their academic requirements at Silliman.
Professors of the SU College of Computer Studies also interfaced with a technology consultant and an expert in startup businesses from the Alameda delegation, where they identified Silliman as a potential training ground with its newly-inaugurated Apps Incubation & Development Laboratory, established with the support of Apple Inc.
The Alameda visit coincided with the visit of Dumaguete’s another sister-city, Yeongdun-Gun in South Korea, which also had a 17-member delegation led by Mayor Park Se Bok.
The Korean delegation was hosted along with the delegation from Alameda, and also participated in the business and academic fora. (SU OIP PR)
