The Silliman University College of Mass Communication celebrates its 45th Anniversary this year with no less than the granddaughter of its founder, Ms. Judith Rowland and the System Director for Public affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola Export Corporation and Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines , Mr. Jose Bayani JB Baylon.
Rowland, who is the granddaughter of Dr. D. Wayne Rowland, the founder of the then School of Journalism and Communication, will be visiting the College of Mass Communication to speak about “Journalism and its role in local and national development” on July 19, at 10-o-clock in the morning in the Mary Marqis Smith Hall of Silliman University. Part of Rowland’s visit is also her interest to trace her roots in the Silliman Community and discover the places her grandfather had fondly told her stories about while in the United States of America.
On the other hand, in line with the College of Mass communication’s theme, “Communicating Silliman Values at the Age of New Media”, Mr. Jose Bayani Baylon will be sharing his expertise on the topic “How to stand out in the crowd using social networking”, on July 21 in the Silliman University Audio Visual Theater 1, at 10-o-clock in the morning also. Baylon’s lecture will focus on how student journalists can efficiently harness the power of their social networks and make it useful in their careers.
The lectures are open to all Mass Communication Schools in the city, and to the community media as well. The lectures also form part of the year long calendar of activities of the College of Mass Communication’s Celebration. (Iresse Patricia Bulos)
