Two Marketing students from the Silliman University College of Business Administration have won a cash prize of US $20,000 (about P1.1 million) after clinching the top prize during the Go Green with Taiwan proposal competition finals held Dec. 11 in Nizukuri-ba, Taiwan.

Dignity Lagunay and John Edison Tubil, representing the Philippines, were among the winners from six other countries: Hungary, United States, Canada, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. They were selected from among 17 semi-finalists.

Lagunay and Tubil were awarded for their proposal Sweet Solutions to the Plastic Crisis: Compostable Sugarcane-based Alternatives, which focused on addressing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The Go Green with Taiwan competition is a global proposal competition organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, and The International Trade Administration to promote sustainable development and environmental innovation.

The competition invites businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals worldwide to submit innovative proposals that incorporates Taiwan’s green products and technologies to address pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, renewable energy, waste management, and pollution control.

The final proposal presentation took place at the Taipei International Convention Center. Lagunay and Tubil were accompanied by Asst. Prof. Lou Shien Ban Granaderos, adviser of the SU Junior Marketing Association. (Leonidas Cañete/SU CBA)
