Vice President for Development Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino met with the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Laos PDR in the Philippines to explore opportunities of student recruitment in Laos.

Deputy Chief of Mission Khamfeung Phanthaxay welcomed Professor Belarmino in the receiving room of the Embassy in Magallanes Village in Makati, and expressed the openness of the Embassy to partner with Silliman on programs involving student recruitment.

The meeting formalized the written request of the University to work closely with the Embassy on its international recruitment plan. It also sought to identify priority courses and other preferences of its nationals in selecting a school abroad, and to establish an initial contact with the Ministry of Education of Laos.

Laos is one of five Asian countries that Silliman is focusing on for its international recruitment program this school year.

In the recent Asian universities ranking done by independent research institution Quacquarelli Symonds, Silliman was ranked Top 2 school in the Philippine in the “International Students” category.

Silliman hosts close to 300 international students every school year from 30 countries. The top three foreign student groups this school year are the Koreans (89), Americans (25) and Chinese (19).
