Dr. Angel C. Alcala, Director of the Silliman University-Angelo King Center for Research and Environmental Management (SUAKCREM), will assume the chairmanship of its Board of Advisers, vice Dr. Quintin Salas Doromal.

He will be replaced as director by Dr. Ely L. Alcala, who will pursue his own studies on terrestrial biodiversity in tropical rainforests and at the same time coordinate the marine biodiversity research program under the leadership of Rene Abesamis.

The Board of Advisers consists of 7-9 members responsible for the policy directions of the total program of SUAKCREM, which is supported by the proceeds of an endowment fund from the Angelo King Foundation, Inc. and grants from external organizations such as the James Cook University.

Alcala will continue his academic commitment to the Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences and the Biology Department at Silliman University by teaching graduate courses for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs of these departments and other university assignments that may be given to him.

He will also replace Dr. Doromal as Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAP College Foundation, Inc. and as member of other CAP Family of Companies.

His other responsibilities include the Zonal Research Center of the Commission on Higher Education, which he heads together with Dr. Orencio Lachica. The ZRC promotes cooperative researches of higher education institutions in Region 6 and Region 7. This program, which deals with biodiversity of marine and river systems in the Central and Western Visayas, are supported by GIA grants worth 15-20 million pesos from the Commission on Higher Education. He serves as research mentor to the faculty members involved in these research projects. Alcala also chairs the regular meetings of the group composed of 18 ZRC directors and research coordinators of other regions of the Philippines.
