Sixth graders of the Silliman University Elementary Scool bagged first place in the Negros Island Region Regional Finals of the Metrobank-MTAP-Department of Education Math Challenge held in Kabankalan City.
Carlos Miguel Angelo Salazar and Jev Ulric Torres bested 15 other divisions to clinch the championship for SUES.
The Math Challenge is a Math contest for elementary and secondary students in both public and private schools nationwide. It is implemented by the Metrobank Foundation Inc., the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines, and DepEd, which aims to contribute in improving the quality of Mathematics education in the Philippines.
It aims to awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and high school students in both private and public schools all over the country; encourage students to strive for excellence in Mathematics; encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills; discover mathematical talents among elementary and high school students; and provide students opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking.
