The Philippine Society of General Surgeons has awarded the residency training program of the Department of Surgery of Silliman University Medical Center an interim accreditation phase I-R status.
Interim accreditation is a progressive and graduated process with four phases in the next four years, leading up to Level II accreditation. Interim accreditation is available to all qualified government and private health care facilities under the PSGS Guidelines for Accreditation of Residency Training Program.
The accreditation allows SUMC to enter into linkages or affiliations with other Level I and II accredited training programs to help it implement the process of training.
The SUMC Department of Surgery is now authorized to train first year level or junior residents from medical schools. They can also accept applicants for the Residency Training Program for doctors who want to train to become diplomates in General Surgery. (Herbert Timtim)
