The month-long 2014 Summer Chess Clinic officially started March 31 at the Negros Club 64 headquarters at the TESDA Building at the Capitol Area.
The chess clinic aims to further enhance the skills of the elementary and high school pupils-players.
The program is spearheaded by the Negros Oriental Sports Development Program, with chess coordinator Florendo Zamora and ably-assisted by Club 64 Vice President Bobby Torres.
Registration from beginners up to the advanced level are still being accepted, with a minimal fee of P 1,000.
Meanwhile, two summer clinic participants competed and represented the Province in the NCFP National Age-Group Chess Championships in April 4 to 6 in Bacolod City.
The Olendo siblings, Sara Francine and Alfonzo Louis, the Province’s top junior players, and last year’s national age-group medalists, vied for slots to represent the country in the ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships on June 3 to 12 to be held in Macau. (PR)
